October 24, 2020, is a historic date for all mankind. It is one of those rare moments when we can be proud of the mark we leave in the history books. The treaty supported by the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICANW)1, which is registered at the UN since September 20, 2017, has just obtained its 50th ratification, leading to its implementation as an international law in 90 days.
A huge thank you to the 50 countries that have shown leadership, despite very strong pressure from the nuclear weapon countries. It is thanks to you that today we can officially declare that nuclear weapons are internationally PROHIBITED weapons of mass destruction, as are chemical and biological weapons.
It is a victory that we must greatly celebrate, even if we are aware that the task is not finished. This historic moment is undoubtedly one of those on which the future and the very survival of our humanity depends, so let us celebrate it as it should be!
We have won, SHOUT IT on every social network, let’s show our support for this historic event, because unfortunately, the media will not do it.
But, you know, we didn’t wait for the media for the treaty to be popularized and signed, we won’t wait for them either to make it known on the whole planet: Nuclear weapons are now FORBIDDEN!
Let’s all continue our peaceful actions, let’s make sure that everywhere in the world, every person, every child, every business and every university hears this great news. The more people know about it, the more pressure will be put on governments to finally stand on the right side of history. A new hope has just opened up for us. Let’s not give up, one meditation for peace at a time, one day at a time.
